The Battered Wife
Divorce had crossed her mind but she refused to give in to that thought because of the fear of losing her son to Jack. Jack is a well-known powerful attorney with strong reputation across the city. She wondered how is she could win her child custody suit against Jack who hasn't lost a case in years. Lisa became more frightened when she thought of the possibility of losing her law suit and everything that Jack had given her. Lisa had built her entire identity and revolved her life around Jack. What is she going to do? Does she have a place to go and stay when she loses her fortunes? While she was seeking sources on that issue, she read about women who died while remaining loyal to their abusive husbands. She made some copies from the library and took it home to continue to read while Jack was at work.
One day, Jack came home from work and noticed an article laying under the bed. He kneeled down to find out what it was. He had discovered that the article covered domestic violence in the home. Jack indeed became infuriated and asked Lisa why she is reading that trash. Jack realized that his marriage may be in jeopardy and wanted to control what information should be read in the home. Lisa realized that she needed to take a stand against his abusive behavior. They both argued for hours and Jack threatened divorce. This devastated her when Jack told her that it meant that she would lose her life investments and her son. She was willing to take the stand against him because she was fed up. Jack set up a divorce arraignment and child custody preparation. The proceeding would take place months ahead and Lisa would be destroyed if Jack wins the case.
This story between Jack and Lisa isn't a true story. However, these incidents do happen across the country every day.
